WYSO-TRIVIA

Last night was trivia night on WYSO, and we, being Cartwrights and Heffron-Cartwrights never turn down a chance to show how much random stuff we know. I'm not going to give a play by play account but we did come in second as The Springboks after The Jabberwockies...Our goal for the next Trivia Night 1) Beat the Jabberwockies 2) Get team tattoos of a Springbok like they did in Lord of the Rings. See you on 25 February.

I Must Document This Moment

I was hanging out in my room before my daily nap when all of the household animals (sans Alma) decided to join me. Obviously, in the natural order of things a photo shoot ensued. Everyone brought their A-game.

Poor Ivan couldn't quite make it onto the bed.

This is the least awkward looking picture of Bowie and also the one where he looks least cross eyed...he is not America's Next Top Model

Public Service Announcement

Mean people suck. Give the extra effort and be nice to the people around you, or at least be polite to them. It will make everyone's life a little nicer.

Alternative Uses

I think in the new year I'm gonna start using this blog to write really passive aggressive things about people and divulge things about me that are way too personal...this is one option, but I think I will stick to writing about the random and mundane with the occasional google image of a funny looking dog. Wow, I'm really selling myself here. Enjoy!

Back By Popular Demand...

...but actually I just felt like drawing them, here's another Oryx picture

Better than the Internets

One of my resolutions for this year is to read more. I think I'm off to a good start. I just finished "A Wild Sheep Chase" by Murakami. It was very good. Next up "Cruising Paradise: Tales" by Sam Shepard...that seems appropriate. It's about time I read something American.

Part II

Yesterday I got the rest of my tattoo filled in and I now have a complete piece on my upper right arm. Yay! I will post a picture of it, but I have learned two things that are preventing me from doing it now. 1) Taking a picture of your own arm is no easy task 2) The tattoo is not at all healed and it will look much better when it is. So until then...I don't know...here's a drawing of an oryx!

I Wish I Was in the Land of Cotton, Old Times there are not Forgotten

Like Caitlin, I too have recently purchased a ukulele, but unlike her I will not be playing it to conjure up the feeling of a tropical island. I promise to only use my ukulele for good...that is, for playing folksy songs and such. My guide right now is the John C. Campbell Folk School Song Book that I may or may not be permanently borrowing. I've learned a few tunes such as "Dixie", "Cumberland Gap", and "Kumbaya" and when I say learned that means I can recognise the chords and can strum the song in a somewhat recognisable fashion...but I think it's a lot of fun and that's what really matters.

Well things have settled down here considerably. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the house right now, which feels strange after having all six of us in the same place. Now that the holidays are over it's like I've gotten my own time and space back, I'm not running off of somebody else's schedule. So far I've used any free time mostly to nap. I have a lot of sleep to catch up on. I've been busy with work, getting Caitlin ready to go back to Africa, and driving to Indianapolis in a snow storm. Speaking of back to Africa, if you are curious about the goings on of Caitlin and her ukulele playin', English teachin', weird food eatin' adventures you can check her new blog out (I know I will) at thanksafrica.blogspot.com...it's quite literally my sister blog.

ps
Dayton has five sister cities.
  1. Augsburg, Germany
  2. Holon, Israel
  3. Monrovia, Liberia
  4. Oiso, Japan
  5. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Of Course I Would Write This Right Before I Go to Bed

I think one of my favorite activities is sleeping. I do it so often these days, but I have always been an active sleeper...I seem to recall a certain trip to Ireland that I pretty much slept through. The moment I wake up I start to think about when I can crawl back into bed. When I was in college I would set my alarm to go off on days I had no morning classes just so I could have the satisfaction of going back to sleep.
What I most enjoy about sleeping is being in a bed with lots of pillows and blankets and just being comfortable and cozy. I like listening to things as I fall asleep too, especially movies and the sound of trains. I honestly have a hard time falling asleep in silence. And I don't care much for dreaming. Dreams are alright, but I could do without them when I sleep. For me, sleeping is supposed to be a relaxed and ultra comfortable experience...It's the best!!

New Resolution

Both the Heartless Bastards and Azure Ray, two bands that I enjoy, have a song called "New Resolution"...don't be fooled, although the title is the same the two songs are very different.

Speaking of resolutions, I actually have thought of a few that I want to follow through on this year. We'll see.
