Here is a poem about seeing rainbows in unexpected places...it was written by my buddy Calvin
A perfect wonder in raven's down, hides
The sweet odor of synthetic disease
The vapors of an iridescent tide,
in a perfect rainbow of antifreeze.

Something to Think About
Oh my, it's been a little while since I've written on this thing. I've spent most of this last week catching up on sleep. I'm pretty well rested now. Although, my sleep hasn't been nearly as good here as it was at Arrowmont. Anyways, there are more interesting things to discuss other than the quality of my sleep.
Here's another question along the lines of the 50 lbs of anything question...
If you were stranded on a desert island what five people would you take with you?

Priorities
I'm back in OH-IO now
But...
More importantly...
If you could have 50 lbs of anything (except for money or gold or something stupid like that) what would it be?
Here are some answers that have already been suggested: Pop Rocks, Hamsters, Pillows, Elephant Meat, Red Bull Energy Beverage and so on.

Dang Yo
So I was doing some math the other day which is really weird because I don't normally do math unless I have to...anyways, I was curious to see how many hours of sleep I was getting to the hours of sleep I was awake. If my calculations are correct (and they may not be because a) I'm an artist b)I am sleep deprived and c)I did it on a napkin during a coffee break) well if my calculations are correct the average Arrowmont work study gets 1 hour of sleep to every 3 hours that they are awake...somehow that doesn't seem right

Weekend Adventures
This weekend was action packed...they call me "Action" for a reason (shout out to Danger)...anyways, I climbed a mountain to a place called Charlie's Bunion, it sounds gross but it is actually really beautiful and today I went to downtown with my buddy Paige to Sevierville and got my picture taken with a statue of Dolly Parton that they have there. It was awesome.

Kitchen vs. Housekeeping
If you were wondering for whatever reason which was better, housekeeping or working in the kitchen the correct answer is housekeeping. I have recently decided that it is far superior to working in the kitchen.

Busy Busy
Here is the piece I did during my screen printing class last week. I had no idea what to do going in and was sort of intimidated by the other students who were all amazing and had textile experience before. I was listening to my ipod and got the idea to do a piece based on Neutral Milk Hotel’s album “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”. I started doodling and then everything just fell into place. I used a variety of screen printing techniques and some stamping and also just some straight painting on the fabric. All of the images, colors, and the three sections of the fabric correspond with lyrics on the album. The three sections on the fabric represent the three sections on the cd. I have it broken down to Part 1- Comfort, Safety, and Warmth Part 2- Despair and Suffering and Part 3-Enlightenment.
Here are some lyrics that are important to the piece
The King of Carrot Flowers Part One
Here are some lyrics that are important to the piece
The King of Carrot Flowers Part One
And your mom would stick a fork right into daddy's shoulder
And your dad would throw the garbage all across the floor
As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for
And this is the room One afternoon I knew I could love you
And from above you how I sank into your soul
Into that secret place where no one dares to go
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
What a beautiful face I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sunWhat a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screenIn a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweetLet me hold it close and keep it here with me
Two Headed BoyTwo headed boy
There is no reason to grieve
The world that you need is wrapped in gold silver sleeves
Left beneath Christmas trees in the snow
And I will take you and leave you alone
Watching spirals of white softly flow
Over your eyelids and all you did
Will wait until the point when you let go
Two Headed BoyTwo headed boy
There is no reason to grieve
The world that you need is wrapped in gold silver sleeves
Left beneath Christmas trees in the snow
And I will take you and leave you alone
Watching spirals of white softly flow
Over your eyelids and all you did
Will wait until the point when you let go
Holland, 1945
The only girl I've ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive One evening 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she's a little boy in Spain Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sunAll sing to say my dream has come
And it's so sad to see the world agree
That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes
Oh Comely
And I know they buried her body with others
Her sister and mother and 500 families
And will she remember me 50 years later
I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine
Know all your enemies We know who are enemies are
Goldaline my dear We will fold and freeze together
Far away from here There is sun and spring and green forever
But now we move to feel
For ourselves inside some stranger's stomach
Place your body here
Let your skin begin to blend itself with mine
Ghost
And one day in New York City baby
A girl fell from the sky
From the top of a burning apartment building
Fourteen stories high
And when her spirit left her body
How it split the sun
I know that she will live for ever
All goes on and on and on and
She goes and now she knows she'll never be afraid
To watch the morning paper blow
Into a hole where no one can escape
A girl fell from the sky
From the top of a burning apartment building
Fourteen stories high
And when her spirit left her body
How it split the sun
I know that she will live for ever
All goes on and on and on and
She goes and now she knows she'll never be afraid
To watch the morning paper blow
Into a hole where no one can escape
Two Headed Boy Part Two
And when we break we'll wait for our miracle
And when we break we'll wait for our miracle
God is a place where some holy spectacle lies
And when we break we'll wait for our miracle
God is a place you will wait for the rest of your life
Two-headed boy, she is all you could need
She will feed you tomatoes and radio wires
And retire to sheets safe and clean
But don't hate her when she gets up to leave.
